5-minute restaurant style blender salsa

I love chips and salsa.  It’s one of my favorite snacks any time of the day.  Sometimes I fancy a chunky, fresh pico type salsa, but more often, I love the smoother salsa like they serve at some of my favorite Mexican restaurants.  All the ingredients for this restaurant style salsa are finely minced, so even your most fussy eaters will love dipping their tortilla chips in this deliciousness.

Restaurant Style salsa is the EASIEST salsa to make, taking just five minutes of your time, because you literally throw everything in the blender and it’s done!  It’s super versatile – you control the heat and the sweet – so with your own little tweaks you can make this your absolute perfect salsa!  I like to whip some of this up on a Friday so we can dip and dunk all weekend long.

Here are a couple of tips for this recipe:

  • I LOVE to use the fire roasted canned tomatoes.  They add an additional layer of flavor!  However, if you just have plain canned, they will definitely work in a pinch.
  • Not a fan of heat?  Reduce the jalapenos and chipotle powder.
  • Want more heat?  Add more chipotle powder, or don’t take all the seeds out of the jalapenos.
  • You can use a white, yellow or red onion.
  • Don’t like cilantro?  Switch it out for parsley!  Yes, it will taste different, but if you don’t like cilantro it’s a great substitute.

Ingredients:

  • 2 (14.5oz) cans of fire roasted tomatoes
  • 1 (4oz) can of diced green chilies
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 2 jalapenos, seeded and cut in to chunks
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 large lime, juiced and zested
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1-1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chipotle powder
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, roughly chopped

Instructions:

  1. Add the tomatoes, green chilies, diced onion, jalapenos, minced garlic, lime zest and juice, sugar, salt, black pepper, cumin, chipotle powder and cilantro in to the blender and pulse until desired consistency.
  2. Taste and add additional salt and pepper for your preferred taste.
  3. Refrigerate the salsa for at least two hours before serving to allow all the flavors to meld.
