Today I’m sharing my favorite homemade brownie recipe and it’s the BEST brownie recipe!  When moving this blog from Blogger to WordPress, I realized I had 132 recipe drafts in blogger that I have not photographed and/or published. Some of these recipes are honestly over ten years old, but these oldies are goodies and some of my very favorite recipes, so I’m going through to find the best ones to share with you.

I just made these fudgy brownies today for hubby (cause he deserves a good weekend treat after a long week), and as always they did not disappoint. These brownies are thick, chocolatey and so delicious with big chunks of chocolate running through them. They are made in a regular mixing bowl, no mixer needed and no stovetop needed – you actually use the microwave to melt the butter with the sugar!

My hubby and I love Trader Joes semi-sweet chocolate chunks so they are my favorite for these brownies, but if you don’t have a Trader Joes near you, you can totally use your favorite chocolate chips instead. These come together in just a few minutes with pantry ingredients you most likely already have on hand, so what are you waiting for? Let’s make these brownies – they are sure to become a new family favorite!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup AP flour
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1-1/4 cup sugar
  • 10 Tbsp butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 whole egg plus 1 yolk
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips and/or chunks (I like Trader Joes) plus additional for garnish

 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven 350
  2. Spray a 8×8 inch pan with non-stick spray, line with parchment and set aside
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt then set aside
  4. In a medium microwave safe mixing bowl, add the butter and sugar and heat on high for about a minute until butter is melted then whisk until smooth
  5. Whisk in the cocoa powder and vanilla
  6. Whisk in the egg and the egg yolk until well combined
  7. Whisk in the flour mixture until just combined
  8. Stir in your chocolate chips and/or chunks using a spatula to make sure you have all the dry ingredients well incorporated, then scrape the brownie batter in to the middle of the prepared pan and spread gently to the edges.
  9. Dot with a few more chocolate chunks if desired!
  10. Bake 35-38 minutes or until a toothpick placed in the center just has wet crumbs.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before removing from the pan, slicing and serving!

What would you recommend as baking time for smaller square pans? Like a 3×3?

Hi Cheyenne, I have not made these in the small square pans, but I usually do 12-15 minutes as a starting point for that pan! Let me know how they turn out! 🙂
