Easy Chocolate Dipped Pretzels

pretzels dipped in chocolate and decorated with sprinkles

One of the quickest treats to throw together for the holidays either for gifting or sharing at the dessert table are these easy Chocolate Dipped Pretzels.  They only use THREE ingredients and whatever festive sprinkles fit the occasion to bring joy in how they look and how they taste.  Grab the kids and let them go to work creating their own masterpieces to share.  This salty sweet classic will disappear off the table faster than you can fill the bowl!

These Chocolate Dipped Pretzels are impossible to mess up.  Just melt chocolate, dip and sprinkle.  They are deliciously decadent but so fun.  These were made for Valentines day, but you can easily switch out the sprinkles for St. Patricks’ Day, Easter, July 4th, Halloween, Christmas, or any festive occasion.  They will add a perfect pop of color to any food table or they look so cute in colorful boxes or wrapped in treat bags with ribbon!

A couple of tips for this recipe:

  • I usually like to use semi-sweet chocolate chips for this treat because they are the perfect match with the salty pretzels, but you could also substitute milk, dark, or white chocolate!
  • Don’t over-heat your chocolate or it could seize up.  Only heat until it all starts to melt together and then stir to complete the melting process!
  • Choose festive sprinkles for whatever the occasion. There are SO many options at Walmart, Amazon, or Michael’s.
  • You can use wax paper or parchment paper to lay the pretzels on to dry.  I use wax because it’s so cheap and the pretzels peel so easily off of it!
  • I like to dip the pretzels leaving one of the top corners bare for contrast!  This means you can dip with your fingers.  If you want to completely cover the pretzels, use two forks or a chocolate dipping tool.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil
  • Whatever shape pretzels you like
  • Festive sprinkles for whatever occasion you are celebrating

 Instructions:

  1. Line a couple of baking sheets with wax or parchment paper.  You can also put the paper directly on the counter if you aren’t going to need to move it till they are set!
  2. Melt the chocolate chips and shortening in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave on high for one minute. Stir and if necessary, microwave at additional 20-30 second intervals until melted and smooth
  3. Dip the pretzels in to the melted chocolate and place on your prepared wax or parchment paper.  Sprinkle the chocolate dipped part of the pretzel immediately with festive sprinkles so they will set on the chocolate as it dries
  4. Let the treats cool completely before boxing or bagging up!
