Copycat Wingers Amazing Sticky Wing Sauce

sticky fingers with ranch and celery

Years ago we attended a picnic for a company my hubby was working for.  While there I got to talking to one of the office ladies about recipes, and she told me an insanely simple way to make imitation Wingers “Amazing Sauce.”  Our family are big fans of Wingers wings and sticky fingers and we absolutely adore their amazing sauce, which is a perfect balance of sweet, sticky and slightly spicy.  I’m always looking for ways to recreate our favorite things at home so I had to try her recommendation immediately.  I could not believe how fast and easy this was and it tasted absolutely, well, amazing!  It’s been a family favorite ever since.

This sauce is just three ingredients, two if you don’t count the water; Franks hot sauce, water, and brown sugar.  Who would have thought such simplicity could produce such deliciousness?  On a busy night I love to whip up this quick sauce, bake a few of these Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips, which I usually grab from Sams Club, then dip them in the sauce and serve with veggies, fries, salad, whatever we feel like!  (I also love dipping pre-made bone-in wings in this sauce.  Delicious!)

The family thinks it’s a treat any time they get Wingers type sticky fingers and I think it’s a treat that I really don’t have to do any cooking.  As a note, I have tried this with different hot sauces and Franks is the best, hands down.  You just don’t get the same result with other brands.

We have made this deliciousness with both Franks regular hot sauce and their buffalo hot sauce – I actually cooked both at the same time and did a blind taste test with the fam, and they unanimously chose the buffalo hot sauce, so that is what we use.  However, use what you have on hand or try them both and see which your family prefers!  I don’t honestly taste a huge difference between the two final products.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup Franks hot sauce (we like the buffalo)
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1-1/2 cups brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Throw all of the ingredients in to a small saucepan and stir with a wooden spoon.
  2. Heat over medium high heat just until it just comes to a boil, the sugar is completely dissolved and the sauce is starting to look translucent.  (The sauce will be pretty runny but will thicken slightly as it sits after you remove it from the heat.)
  3. That is it!!  Pour over your chicken strips or wings, toss and serve.

Note:  We often mix a tablespoon of this sauce in with our ranch dressing like they do at wingers to dip the sticky fingers in.  It makes for a lovely fry sauce too!
