The Best Steak Marinade

by | Mar 10, 2019 | Beef, Marinades & Seasonings

We have grilled many  steaks in this house.  Sometimes we just throw on our favorite grill seasoning 30 minutes prior and throw them on the grill, but when we have a little longer to think about it, there is absolutely no beating this amazing Steak Marinade.  We have been using it for years!  The combination of soy sauce, lemon, garlic, ginger and a ton of different seasonings leaves you with flavorful, tender steak that rivals your favorite steakhouse.

I like to let the steak sit in the marinade all day or overnight in the refrigerator, (no more than 24 hours.)  Then you just pull it out an hour before you are going to grill so you can let the meat come to room temperature.  Preheat the grill and sear the meat over high heat, a few minutes on each side depending on how well you like it and DONE!  We like to throw baked potatoes in the oven when we take the meat out of the refrigerator to sit and serve another grilled veggie on the side.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 3 Tbsp canola oil
  • Juice of a lemon (can add zest) or 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp Montreal steak  seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 tsp ginger
  • 1 Tbsp dried parsley
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • A pinch of ground cayenne pepper
  • 2lb petite sirloin steak (or you can use your favorite cut)

Instructions:

  1. Measure and combine all the ingredients (except the meat) together in a storage sized Ziploc bag, (check out my favorite bag holders for prep), close, then shake and squeeze until all combined.
  2. Throw in the meat and squish it all around.  Allow to sit for at least an hour on the counter, or up to 24 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Grill the meat on high heat, (discard the remaining marinade), until desired doneness, (we pull ours off when it hits 140 degrees with an instant read thermometer as we like ours medium.)
  4. Remove from the grill, place the meat on a baking tray and tent with foil for 10 minutes before serving.
