There is something so comforting and satisfying about a bowl of pasta smothered in a sauce made from butter, cream and Parmesan cheese. If you have never made your own Alfredo sauce you are truly missing out because no bottled jar can compare to the beautiful flavor you get from slow simmering these simple ingredients together! This rich and creamy homemade Fettuccine Alfredo sauce will ruin bottled sauce for you forever.
This sauce brings the kids home. Literally. My kids have straight up changed their plans when they find out I’m making this for dinner. It’s a family fav for sure, especially when we serve it up with homemade fresh pasta, (recipe for homemade pasta available here), but feel free to use regular store bought fettuccine noodles too! They make it so easy to throw together! Â
When having this for dinner, we sometimes like to slice up breaded chicken strips and serve them over the top like you get at Olive Garden, but honestly, it’s heavenly just by itself, no frills needed. The Alfredo sauce also makes a GREAT dip for bread sticks! (Check out my favorite breadstick recipe here.)
*Note, you can make this with just 2 cups half and half instead of 1 cup of each, it just won’t be quite as thick and creamy. You can also make it with just 2 cups heavy cream, you may just want a little more milk to thin it out.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup Butter
- 1 tsp Garlic Minced
- 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1 cup half and half
- 1/2 Teaspoon Italian Seasoning
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 Teaspoon Pepper
- 2 Cups Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Up to 1/4 cup hot milk, (optional) or pasta water
- 1 pkg fettuccine noodles – cooked to package directions
- Freshly chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions:
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium high heat and add the minced garlic. Let simmer for just a minute.
- Add in the cream and half and half and whisk until it’s all incorporated and bring back to gently simmering.
- Whisk in the Italian seasoning, salt and pepper.
- Add the Parmesan cheese and let slowly melt while stirring.
- Once the cheese is completely melted, (so that it isn’t stringy in the sauce any longer), whisk in small amounts of the hot milk or pasta water until the sauce is the consistency or thickness you like.Â
- Toss the sauce with the cooked fettuccine noodles, (cooked according to package directions), and garnish with shaved parm and parsley if desired.
